A small cache at a great overlook point on the Rim Trail (T105)
north of Timberon. South end of the Sacramento Mountains. Bring
your binoculars!
Birds...especially birds of prey...love a perch with a great
view...and the Birddroppings team is especially enamored with great
view sites. This cache is placed at one! We were driving the very
long West Side Rd. (FR90 - dirt all the way…and muddy when
wet) from High Rolls, NM heading south to Timberon, NM. At the
south end the road steeply switchback climbs the Sacramento
escarpment up into the higher elevations of the range. Not long
before the road meets Sacramento Canyon road the Rim trail crosses
the road. I was simultaneously trying to keep the truck on the road
and gawk at the expansive views across the southern 2/3rds of the
Tularosa Basin when the other Bird said "This area would provide a
great spot for a cache. How about up there!". "Heck yea, it would!"
I replied. So we stopped and made the hike up the trail to a great
perch. We're pretty proud of the spot! Hope you enjoy your "bird's
eye" view across the basin. Spend some time here and look south to
north and try to identify all the various ranges that surround the
basin. Remember to bring binoculars.
Congrats to sadie2000trains for the
FTF!
