Geocache Description:

Station approach

Eccleston Park is between St Helens and Prescot on the Liverpool Lime Street to Wigan North Western line. The building which faces you as you come down the approach is a pumping station for one of the water pipelines bringing water for Liverpool to the Reservoirs a mile away at Eccleston Lane Ends. I used to ride my bike in the 50s from my home by the reservoirs to catch the train to school in Liverpool. In those days the approach to the platforms was from the ends of the road overbridge and you can still see where the stone was altered. When I placed the cache the stationmaster (if that is what he is called these days) produced a photo from 1974 showing how it was. The station gardens in those days were immaculate. There is CCTV on the station but hopefully the cache is not in sight as it is of course not within the operational station.. Please don't park on Portico Lane anywhere near the bridge as traffic is fast and frequent - better round the corner!
