St Mary The Virgin, Salcott-cum-Virley. The only parish in England to be named after its Salt making.
This is Salcott Church. The tower and porch date from the 15th century however the body of the church was rebuilt after the 1884 Great Colchester Earthquake. This tremor is estimated to have been 6.9 on the Richter scale one of the most destructive quakes ever recorded in the U.K. Inside the church is a picture detailing improvements to the building since the 13th century.
There is a super window in the church which was a commission using the official Millennium logo and a stained glass interpretation of the village sign. The only lead present in this piece is around the circumference. All the various colours are achieved by plating, acid-etching, enamelling and staining.
