Geocache Description:

Near Gilman Falls on the Penobscot River in Old Town, parking available within a few hundred yards from the cache.

This cache is located near the impressive Gilman Falls on the Penobscot River in Old Town, Maine. Approaching the cache will get you close enough to the falls and rapids for you to appreciate their power and energy without being dangerous. PLEASE NOTE: There have been many deaths due to drowning on this stretch of the river over the years, so please be extra careful if you approach the river bank (which is not necessary to find the cache). The water is exceptionally swift and deep, adding to both its magnificence and danger.

The cache is named for a very special lady who grew up very near the location of the cache and still lives in the greater Old Town area. Parking is available on private property in my aunt's driveway (see waypoint). Just be sure not to block the driveway (but parking on the grass is OK).

This is the first cache I've hidden, so please cut me some slack if I have not done everything exactly right. Specifically, the only GPSr I own is not particularly well-suited to the sport, although I went to great lengths to get as accurate a set of readings as possible. I believe the coordinates will get you very close to the cache, but if anyone has a more accurate reading I will be glad to edit the posting.

The cache container is a small ~6-inch square tupperware container. It seems to be fairly watertight, but PLEASE be sure to seal the lid tightly after your visit (it's a little finicky). Initial contents include: log book, pen, pencil, some trinkets (combination of things suitable for kids and adults), and three individually-bagged, brand-new John Tyler $1 coins for the first three to find the cache.

Hope you enjoy the cache and the location!
