Pico do Vento Traditional Geocache

Lago do Vento

Having the chance to spend a nice weekend with my geocaching friend “Mario de Monti”, we decided to show you another highlight in this wonderful area of Rabaçal. And it’s not this ant-trail like “25 Fontes”.

Usually you start at the parking area of Rabaçal and go down in direction of the forester’s house. At N 32º 45.664 W 017º 08.013 you leave the road and take the trail on your right hand. Follow this trail. At 32º 45.620 W 017º 07.605 you turn right, not left! The left trails leads in a dead end. At N 32º 45.567 N 017º 07.392 you are short bevor the “Lago do Vento” which means “lake of the winds”. Turn left and descend to the lake.

After the lake visit you go up to the last cross point and follow the trail up till N 32º45.520 W 017º 07.260. There you turn left and follow the narrow trail. Now you start your search for the cache. Coming back from logging, you have to decide either to go the same way back – may be you go for the other caches below Rabaçal (e.g. “Rochas dos Louros”, “Casa dos Levadeiros”), or you continue the way up till you arrive at the “Levada do Paúl” which leads you on the left hand to its origin (including water fall) or right hand to the parking area above Rabaçal.

The most part of the hike is not a levada but a single trail. Mountain boots are a must. Take to eat and to drink with you. The decent to the “Lago do Vento” is quite steep.
