Welcome to the Windlesham Walkabout. This is a series centred on
Windlesham School, which is a boarding school for children aged
4-13. It currently has around 300 pupils. It was established
in 1837, and moved to its current location in 1934. The school
nestles in a glorious area of the South Downs.
There are 32 caches in total and the walk is a little over 7 miles.
All of the caches are 35mm film canisters, apart from 3 tubs for
TB's if you'd like to drop any. None have writing implements, so
please bring your own. I have tried to make the hides on this
series, varied and interesting where I can. This walk is designed
to test your caching skills. Some however, will be downright
simple. I have rated all of these caches individually. Try to make
sure you use the rating system to give yourselves an idea of what
might be required at any given cache.
Please try to put the caches back exactly as you found
them, if you can. In an effort to be inventive and interesting, I
have tried to push the envelope a little. If any of the hides fail,
or break, please don’t hesitate to contact me putting "What
idiot would try and hide a cache like that?" as the email title! I
will return to replace, or modify as necessary.
At the top of the page I have added cache
pointers, as well as the usual hints. READ THEM!
THEY MAY WELL HELP. Beware though, some are deliberately
intended, to make you think outside the box.
I have also included trail guides where they might be needed.
However, as always, an OS map will be very useful.
I have also added additional parking waypoints. Please use
them!
Do not attempt to drive into the school under any
circumstances. The grounds, and the lane are Private
Property.
I hope you enjoy this walk. There are some lovely views to be
seen. It can get pretty steep in places as you may imagine, but the
paths are very good all the way around. I have made the walk so
that it can easily be split into two halves if you're short on
time, or feeling lazy! On the whole of the walk I counted just
three stiles which all come at the end, so it's great for dog
walkers or cyclists. There is one busy road to cross though, so
take care, especially with animals and children. Please be
discreet, when walking through the school.
Good luck, have fun and enjoy!
Congratulations to TheTwoMotts and
Family-Wood on being the first cachers to complete a clear
round.
