Geocache Description:

This cache was designed to bring attention to two statues at Horn Pond. One is of a lion and the other of an Indian. The cache was under construction when a tragedy struck, the Indian was stolen. I decided to go ahead with the cache and bring attention to the missing statue.

The Indian
The statue of Winitihooloo was first carved from a tree stump on Conservation Day in 1999. It instantly became a landmark for the walkers and joggers of Horn Pond. After five years the statue was starting to deteriorate so the local conservation group, WREN, had the statue removed and a resin cast was made. The new statue was placed on May 1, 2005 and has stood silently watching those passing by ever since. That is until the night of Thursday, June 25, 2009 when someone stole the statue. There is hope that the statue will be recovered.

The Lion
The Lion at Horn Pond is located in what is now called Lions Park which is a reclaimed parking lot. The park is maintained by the local Lions Club. The lot was at one time parking for Foley Bathing Beach.

To Find the Cache
Imagine the Lion (L), the Indian (I) and the cache (C) forming a scalene, acute triangle (triangle LIC). Line LI is the base of the triangle. Point P is a point on the base so that line PC is perpendicular to line LI. One of the sides of triangle LIC is 338 feet long. Angle LIC is the largest of the three interior angles. The height of the triangle is 334 feet.

What has been provided is all that is needed to determine two possible locations for the final. If you plot the two you will see one would require a boat to access.

Good luck and good caching,
Loch Cache and Winitihooloo.
