Geocache Description:

You are looking for a micro container facing mauka.

In Hawaii, directions are given relative to the ocean and the mountains. Instead of turning left or right, one turns "mauka" (inland, toward the mountains) or "makai" (toward the ocean).

Some say that the translation of the name Kekaha is "hot dry place with nothing to do at night." Don't know if that is really a good translation, but it's an apt description. Kekaha is a tourist road less travelled--it's a workingman's town, with more than a dozen vacation rentals scattered here and there. There is plenty of aloha to be found in this corner of Kaua'i.

The cache is located not far west of Davidson Beach, one of Kaua'i's most popular surfing spots. Watch for surfing action where the highway meets the coastline, especially when there's a good south swell.

After you find the cache, go makai and check out the beach. The forbidden island of Ni'ihau might be visible to the right. The sand on this beach comes and goes, constantly rearranged by the Hawaiian sea gods. Sometimes it's a walk of a hundred yards from the road to the surfline. But, sometimes the surfline is right up to the road.

When you log your find online, please report how much beach there was, how far to the surfline.

Mahalo and Aloha!!

Congratulations to cachemates1 of Schwaigern, Germany, for FTF!!!

Small note on cache maintenance: Local relative will assist.
