Liden Lagoon Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

Furtive Ferrets: This one has gone missing several times now and it's getting harder to find another spot for a decent sized cache. Am archiving it to make the space available for others. Thanks to all those who took the trouble to complete this cache. Regards, FF.

Geocache Description:

This is a multi cache taking you on a journey around the tranquil Liden Lagoon in Swindon to gather clues which lead you to find the final cache.

The co-ordinates given are for suggested parking. There is enough space for four or five cars here with additional parking on the nearby streets.

Liden Lagoon was dug during the 1960s and is thought to be a flood storage facility to help protect the nearby homes. It is now home to a wide range of wildlife including herons, swans, ducks, geese, mice and dragon flies. There are even some reports of a large turtle which sunbathes on the rocks.

Liden Lagoon

It is very close to the busy A419 and you will hear the noise from the traffic whilst searching for this cache. There is no need to go onto the A419 to retrieve this cache.

At the official entrance to the lake there is a monumental stone entitled 'Country Seats Telling Tales' which is engraved with a map of the lagoon. This is very close to the waypoint for the first clue - be sure to check it out.

The lagoon is a popular fishing spot but membership of Liden Lagoon Angling Club slumped in 2002 after a lengthy period of fruitless fishing. The Environment Agency stepped in to help with a cash grant which was used to restock the lagoon with fish and to install large underwater cages to protect the fish from predatory birds which were blamed for the slump. Club membership has increased again and there is a thriving junior section too.

At each waypoint you will find two lines of writing which should be written into the result grid below. Put each line on a separate row with one letter per box and do not leave spaces between the words. There will be some blank spaces at the end of most rows. To get you on the right track the first row should finish at column L.

Don't forget to bring some bread along for the ducks!
