This cache is located in the Donisthorpe Woodland Park.
Watch out when collecting the cache as it has potential to be overlooked by muggles. Stealth is required to retrieve and replace the cache!
The cache is sited within the woodland park. A new forest that was recently planted on the site of the old colliery.
There were two pits sunk in Donisthorpe, which at first were mined by two separate companies but later on were both owned by the Donisthorpe colliery.
The first pit was sunk in 1871 and by 1896 five seams were being worked between the two pits. In 1903 it was recorded that 300,000 tons of coal a year were being produced.
In 1951 the pit broke local and national records and was named as 'Britains Best Pit' in a national competition.
The coal was transported by rail or the Ashby canal and used in manufacturing and household fuel.
In 1990 the pit closed even though 22 new pit faces had just been created, some of which had never been mined.
The mine is no longer visible as the pit head was developed into a housing estate by David Wilson Homes in 1999. The two capped shafts can be identified on the estate by two brick buildings the size of a double garage close to the junction of Dawkins Lane and Buttercup Avenue.
