With around 49 hectares and 15 km of paths, the has flora from many and different origins, such as from Australia, South Africa,
Brazil, in addition to the original flora of the Azores, such as holly, white wood, beech earth, among others. The birds are also very diverse.
The Nature Reserve is also known as Mata das Criações.
In the leisure there many interesting equipments, such as a maze for the visitors,
a warehouse of miniature houses and areas for the younger ones.
The park also received new barbecue equipment, new playground equipment for children,
tree logs as benchs, interpretive signas and information, and exotic plant species.
Now and in the island of St. Miguel, the Azores Government has under its administration eight forest reserves for recreation,
ccupying a total area of 118 hectares,distributed in almost all counties, with emphasis on the Pinhal da Paz,
in Ponta Delgada, Camomile, in Lagoa, Cerrado of calves, in Vila Franca do Campo,
Viveiro of Furnas and Water Retorta in Povoação, Viveiro Northeast, Cancels the Ashtray and Fajã of Rodrigo, the county's northeast.
These eight recreational forest reserves haver over 150,000 visitors per year.
