This easily accessible cache with great views of Silvermine valley and beyond en route is just off Ou Wapad (the Old Wagon Road) which was ‘built in the 1940s and has never felt the imprint of a wagon wheel’ – so much for a name!
The cache can now be combined with Spitskop Armchair cache (GC20VQP) which is on top of the small hill to the west side of Ou Wapad at a spectacular viewpoint.
Ou Wapad links up with other Silvermine West trails (and caches!) but unless you can arrange for another car to be waiting for you, it would involve a rather long round trip to return to this starting point.
Park just off Ou Kaapseweg at S 34 06.460 E 18 24.165 near the Ou Wapad trail sign, ensuring your car is secure and leaving nothing interesting or valuable visible!
Follow the gravel jeep track for approximately 20 minutes ascending approx 115m to the cache area – a prominent flat-topped rock formation just a few metres east of the track.
The cache, a small white tablet container, is hidden at ground level at the pointed foot of one of the large rocks.
