Geocache Description:

Welcome to Team_Ninja’s 37th cache…..please note you will need to retrieve information from a train carriage here and it is NOT at the listed location. It is recommended you search for the carriage at Southern Cross.

This cache was inspired by Biggles Bear’s cache GCHAG5 Smart Array.

Welcome to Victoria’s wonderful train network – full of late trains and angry commuters. This cache involves an big challenge – you are looking for a set of 3 passenger carriages which could be anywhere on the V/line network! To make things a little easier, I have chosen a carriage that is part of a H set, one of Victoria’s oldest regional carriage sets currently in operation. H sets were originally electric trains called ‘Harris’ trains, introduced into the Melbourne train network in 1956. Between 1983 and 1992 Clyde Engineering converted 61 Harris carriages into these ‘H’ sets. Each H set is made up of 3-5 carriages and is given a certain code for the set, eg SH30 which stands for Short (Short or Long – length of carriage) Harris set 30.

There are currently 55 H carriages in operation and they are used for short distance travel – to Geelong, Bacchus Marsh, Sunbury, Kyenton and Seymour. You are searching for H set number SH 30 (the number located on the end carriage of the set – see picture).

In the past you had to retrieve one of the carriage numbers, but that was easily available on the internet. There's more of a challenge now.
You will need to locate carriage BTH 170, ether the first or third carriage in the set SH30 (depending on which way it is travelling).
Near one of the ends of the carriage, there is a black board hanging down just underneath the edge of the white paint on the carriage (see photo for help). You will need to find the numbers on this board to find the cache. It will be easier to see them on a platform opposite the carriage.

If the board reads:
BTH 170 MPT 5 07 33 T go to S 37° 36.923 E 144° 43.188
BTH 170 NPT 1 09 33 T go to S 37° 39.814 E 144° 44.644
BTH 170 MPT 4 06 45 T go to S 37° 38.191 E 144° 43.659
BTH 170 NPT 2 09 33T go to S 37° 36.892 E 144° 42.858
BTH 170 NPT 5 08 45 T go to S 37° 36.417 E 144° 42.861
BTH 170 MPT 6 02 54 T go to S 37° 37.706 E 144° 43.248

After finding the cache you might wish to wander down to the railway line which is a short walk away. Watch out, however, trains go past at 160km/h, so stay alert! You never know, one might go past and it could be SH30!!!

Please trade fairly and make sure the cache is well hidden before departure (watch out for muggles!!!), however most important of all, have fun!!!

As part of your log can you please include where you found SH30 and how long it took you to find it.

See the photos for some extra help.
