Geocache Description:

This cache is in the form of an ammo box and as the title suggests is hidden near the village of Harmer Hill in Shropshire.

The name Harmer comes from the two words: hare and mere. Indeed, although it was drained in the 15th century for farm land, there was a mere situated in a plain close to the village. Harmer Hill is home to 2 pubs: The Bridgewater Arms and The Red Castle, a post office, a village hall and a chapel. Harmer Hill has many apparent ghosts, one being the White Lady, and it is even thought that the popular pastime, pocket billiards, originated from the village.

On 6 March 1996, Harmer Hill was hit by an earthquake which lasted for a couple of minutes and brought some worried residents out of their homes and into the street in their nightclothes. Even though the epicenter occurred some 11 kilometers below the surface, it still measured 3.4 on the Richter Scale and caused roof tiles to topple and cracks to appear in walls.

Overlooking the village of Harmer Hill is the predominant Pim Hill and it is here that my cache has been hidden. Pim Hill is like many of the Shropshire Hills in that it rises gently from the east but falls away with steep cliffs on its west face. A fault runs north-south through Pim Hill, on the west side lies mottled Sandstone and on the east Waterstones and the upper Keuper Sandstone beds. Malachite, Absolite and Vanadium are found along the fault, with extensive Baryte veining in the country rock.
