L.A.P.S. Patti Dale Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

geo-houndz: The muggles have won here. What was a tribute to my cousin Patti Dale has been ruined and my ability to maintain this cache has ended. Good luck to the shelter in the future.

Geocache Description:

PLEASE PARK outside the compound after hours, even if the gate is open. The cache is located outside the gated compound and near, but outside the volunteer fence in a very visible place. The container is a very large plastic ammo case. Have fun Caching! and thank you for supporting L.A.P.S.

DO NOT WALK OVER NEW LANDSCAPING. In a large green ammo can container in easy view.
Loads of room to add clean usable pet themed swag, so trade fairly with new or clean pet items in Ziplocs and be careful not to let dirt or rainwater in as it is vulnerable when the lid is opened. I have loaded it with NEW pet items and some small toys for kids for use when you get your pets from L.A.P.S. or?? Items include rolls of poop bags, squeaky tennis balls, water/food dishes and more.
If you have a spare half hour while you are caching and do not own a dog, please stop in and register with LAPS and take a pooch for a walk in the trails behind the building. The dogs cannot leave the property until they are adopted and desperately need attention and exercise. They can always use volunteers to help and even one hour per week is a good start.

This cache is dedicated to Patti Dale and all the staff and volunteers at the New Langley Animal Protection Society Patti Dale animal shelter, with special Thanks to manager Sean Baker for allowing us to place this cache.
Patti Dale was a devoted and tireless volunteer to care for the welfare of companion animals.
In 2000, Patti co-ordinated volunteers, organized dog walking programs, formed a group to provide foster homes for animals awaiting adoption and raised money for animal medical care.
In 2003, that group of volunteers evolved and formed the Langley Animal Protection society and undertook the role of providing animal control services for the township of Langley.
As a driving force in the establishment of LAPS, Patti advocated for a municipal animal shelter. Her dream was to see a new shelter built on this site. Patti and LAPS members visited many other shelters to gather the best design concepts and ideas for housing and handling animals.
Despite being diagnosed with cancer in 2000, Patti maintained her schedules and goals, continuing to work every chance she could to seeing the dream fulfilled. Unfortunately Patti lost her battle and passed in 2005 and never saw the opening of the shelter which was dedicated October 11, 2008 by her daughters and family.
This cache is extra-special to this cacher as Patti was my cousin. Patti is missed by our family, her friends and volunteers at the LAPS shelter, but her legacy lives on. Patti was affectionately known as the ``Little General`` because she was small in stature, but big in vision and drive and could organize anything successfully.
The Langley Animal Protection Society (LAPS) is a registered non-profit society that works hand-in-hand with the Township of Langley. LAPS is dedicated to rescuing and caring for stray and abandoned animals in the Langley area. LAPS rescues more than 1000 animals per year, many of which need medical attention. The mandate of LAPS is to promote the physical, emotional and psychological well-being of companion animals in Langley.
The background is of a rottweiler, same as the two dogs Patti had at home..
