Christian
Outreach Centre Heybridge started life as a Congregational
Church chapel in the late 19th Century. The chapel was built by the
Congregational Church in Maldon which is now the United Reformed
Church at the top of Market Hill.
Little is known about the early history of the church building
and there are unfortunately no remarkable features to attract the
casual visitor. During the year 2000, extensive rebuilding work was
undertaken by the then pastor including a porch extension, a
kitchen and the church's first-ever flushing toilets.
The fields behind the church were once gravel pits and during
excavation an extensive iron age settlement was discovered.
Similarly the road directly outside the church is an old roman
road leading to Colchester - the long, straight stretch is popular
with speeding motorists particularly after dark so be careful when
crossing.
Although the church has a small carpark, it is signposted as
being for church use only. We have provided coordinates for
alternative parking in the road opposite. Do not park in the
track alongside the church
You are actually looking for a small container which at the time
of placement contained a logbook, pencil, candle, torch and a
travel bug. Also included are coordinates to a special bonus
cache.
If any body would like to expand to this series please do, could
you please let sadexploration know first so he can keep track of
the Church numbers and names to avoid duplication.
