Geocache Description:

Please do not disturb any vegetation - the cache is not "in" or "on" or "under" anything green...
...and please don't touch the Totem Pole - the cache is not on it.

This cache is nearby this Totem Pole which is tucked away at Inspiration Point. It was made in 1925 and donated in 1926, by J. Walter Todd, to the City of Santa Monica as a "token of interest in the community". Mr. Todd, a prominent Santa Monica resident and funeral home director, found the pole while on a trip to Alaska. The Hudson Bay Co. obtained the 17.5 foot sculpture for him, which he, in turn, donated to the City. A 1948 publication Santa Monica Community Book identifies the pole as the "Haida Tlalinget Pole" - the Smithsonian Institution Research Information System identifies the pole's artist as Chilkat and that from top to bottom you will see a raven, fish, bear and wolf.

There is no room for trades, please bring your own pencil and do not use stickers. Thanks.

The Muggle factor can be EXTREME at times - you may need to come back later. You should, with patience (and your body), be able to make the grab and return it to its original spot without being seen - Thank you!

Update August 2009 Muggles have been seen on the "dangerous" side of the fence. There is, of course, no reason for you to place your feet on the dangerous side ... don't do it. But the cache is more visible from the "dangerous" side so we will need to monitor this situation. Your feet should stay placed on the "safe" side. We are not recommending you go for this one at night. Sorry.

Update November 2009: The container has been replaced with a "nano" ...please bring a pen and a tweezers.
