A Covina nasce em Setembro de 1936, fruto da fusão de 7
fábricas, que se dedicavam à produção de vidro plano pelo processo
manual do cilindro soprado.
Em 1962 o grupo Saint-Gobain torna-se accionista de uma parte do
capital (20%) da Covina. Esta participação foi mantida aquando da
nacionalização em 1975.
Em 1991, a Cristaleria Española, S.A empresa do Grupo Saint—Gobain
adquiria maioria do capital da Covina, com a compra da participação
do estado Português na sociedade.

O bairro foi construido para os trabalhadores desta empresa, que
em 1949 estava em plena expansão e crescimento.
Para além dos blocos de apartamentos, a empresa construiu também,
para os seus moradores, uma escola e uma capela.
Esta capela, de reduzidas dimensões, faz parte da paróquia de
Santa Iria da Azóia.

The neighborhood was built for the workers of this company, which
in 1949 was in full expansion and growth.

residents, a school and a chapel.
