South Lyon Trekkers: This one has served its purpose, but I have been hesitant to pull our first LBH. Alas, I picked up the container this morning. Thanks to all who visited. -SLT

Geocache Description:

This geocache is placed as part of the 2009 Metroparks Geocaching Adventure, a series placed by members of the Michigan Geocaching Organization (MiGO). To complete the series, a geocacher will need to find the 11 geocaches hidden in the different Metroparks. For links to all of the geocache web pages click here.

Inside the cover of each geocache you will find two words. These words are to be placed on the appropriate spaces of the crossword puzzle found on the Metroparks Geocaching Adventure 2009 brochure. Metroparks and MiGO will be holding a picnic at Indian Springs Metropark on September 12, 2009. Watch the Metroparks Geocaching Adventure 2009 web site for more details.

This geocache is not located at the posted coordinates.

The geocache has a lengthy description. It may not download entirely to certain software. It would be wise to print this geocache page. A compass separate from the GPSr may also be handy.

OK, I went out to Huron Meadows Metropark to place a cache. I spent some time looking for a good spot and then took some readings to get the coordinates. I took readings a couple times. Then I went home to write up the cache page. When I downloaded the coordinates something happened in the transfer and wiped them out. The coordinates completely disappeared. I was pretty upset since I had put a lot of effort to make sure they were accurate. So I don't have the coordinates to where I placed the cache. However, I do remember where it is and how I hiked to the spot, so I will pass that information on in hopes that cachers can use it to find the cache.

The posted coordinates are for parking. I do have coordinates for there since I used them for another cache. Looking across the parking lot to the northeast you should see a split-rail fence with an opening. Beyond that is a wide-open area. Proceed to the fence and go through the opening. Continue straight ahead and stay parallel to the edge of the woods. You should see a trailhead sign up ahead. The sign is pointing northwest into the woods. A wide trail should be visible. Follow that trail.

The trail will start to go down a hill. It will go up over a smaller hill and then turn to the right. This should be a good heading toward the northeast. Follow this trail and it will turn to the north. There should be a pond on your right. As you walk north you may notice yourself going down and then up a small hill. If I recall the grade rises and then flattens as the trails turns to the northeast. There is a vegetation enclosure up on the right that used is for study purposes. The trail then turns out toward the road.

Follow the trail northeast alongside the road. Up ahead you should see a yellow sign that indicates a curvy road ahead. Walk toward that sign. As you approach the sign look to the northeast. A trailhead should appear that goes off into the woods. To follow it would take you up a hill. Take this trail. The trail continues for someway. It heads northeast, but veers more east after a little way. I don't recall any forks in the trail so staying on the trail will keep you on track. After some distance the trail turns to the north.

After going north a short distance you may be able to see a picnic table ahead. Walking closer should reveal an open area that slopes to the north. A tree stands in the middle of the area and a trash can was there too if I recall. There will be a trail that leaves the open area to the north and one to the southeast. Take the north trail. The grade of the trail is downhill. It may flatten a little, but generally is downhill.

The trail continues downhill and may turn to the northwest. I don't quite recall how far that is to the road, but it is pretty close. That part doesn't matter. What you want to do is look to the north/northeast. There will be a pond that can be seen through the trees. With heavy vegetation it may be difficult to see. At this point you want to look for a black "structure" on the edge of the pond. I'd guess it's within 50' of the trail. (I lost my waypoints too.) It should be easy to find. Take a moment to try to identify it. It's historical, but I don't know much about it. Neither did anyone at Metroparks.

The geocache isn't there, but it is close by. You can use the "structure" as a reference point of sorts. Split the difference and stand between the two parts. From here the cache is about 150 feet away and I would guess at a bearing of 115 degrees. Remember, I'm doing this from memory. Good luck!

The stamp is not a trade item. Please leave it in the geocache.

Please trade fairly for other geocachers. Travel bugs and geocoins are welcome.

The container is a rectangular, clear, Lock & Lock box.
