Geocache Description:

A prominent hill above the Ljubljana wetland.

South from Ljubljana, standing boldly above the wetland Ljubljansko barje, a 1107 m high Mount Krim and its immediate neighbour Malinovec (Raspberry Hill, just one meter lower) often offer the nearest choice for citizens of Ljubljana to rise above fog and low clouds - although when one is unlucky, the top can be windy and covered by a cloud cap. No wonder it is sometimes called a Ljubljana's weather oracle, or even a Mount Olympus of Ljubljana.

But a changing weather is no obstacle for radio communications. The top of Krim hosts a couple of prominent antenna towers, both civilian, military and other services (visit link) . Due to its strategic position the hilltop was closed for access to visitors for 20 years until 1991 and used as a military base.

This is no longer so: in the middle of the antenna towers nest there is an inviting mountain hut, offering domestic food and drinks, but also splendid views (in good weather) from a terrace on its first floor (see webcam on their web page (visit link) ). Do not let the remains of military objects discourage you from visiting the top - just do not enter the closed telecommunications areas, clearly marked (and guarded by a small military staff).

The cache is located halfway from Krim to the nearby hilltop Malinovec, ten minutes walking distance away from the top of Krim - no clear path, just walk through the woods.

There is a wide variety of access choices to reach the top of Krim, and one can even drive by car all the way to a parking place just below the top on a well maintained gravel road, either from Ig, or preferably by a road Brezovica pri Ljubljani / Podpeč / Kamnik pod Krimom / Rakitna, splitting left from the asphalt road at a pass just before reaching Rakitna.

But driving all the way to the top takes half the fun away. See some links below for a couple of other access choices. Our preferred choice is to leave the asphalt road near a hunters' hut at Plehanov laz (P1) (see map at geopedia.si below), and drive for 3 km on a gravel road to the waypoint P2 where car can be parked (below a small shelter on Kavc, not visible from the road - check their first aid kit at the shelter ;-) From there it takes a little more than an hour to reach the top following a marked trail, crossing two other gravel roads along the way (which can serve as alternative starting points for shorter walks: P3, P4).

A small word of caution: the wide hill area around Krim is an area of a bear. Staying on established paths or near frequently visited areas is safe, but walking in the wilderness, especially early in the morning or at night is discouraged.

Nad Ljubljanskim barjem se šopiri 1107 m visoki Krim, malo naprej pa za meter nižji Malinovec. Kadar je v dolini megla ali nizka oblačnost, ponuja Ljubljančanom včasih najbližji dostop iz mrakobnosti - ampak če vam sreča ni naklonjena, je tam zgoraj lahko tudi vetrovno in zavito v oblake. Ni čudno, da se Krimu včasih reče vremenski prerok ali ljubljanski Olimp.

A muhasto vreme ne moti radijskih komunikacij. Vrh Krima gosti več antenskih stolpov, tako civilnih, kot tudi vojaških in policijskih (visit link) . Zaradi svoje pozicije in opreme na njem dvajset let vrh ni bil dostopen obiskovalcem, vse do leta 1991, ko ga je zapustila JLA.

Dandanašnji temu ni več tako, sredi gnezda antenskih stolpov je prijazen planinski dom, ki ponuja domačo hrano, vroč čaj, pa tudi odličen razgled ob lepem vremenu, tudi s terase v prvem nadstropju (kamera je na njihovi strani (visit link) ). Naj vas stari vojaški objekti ne odvrnejo od obiska vrha - le v zaprto in označeno področje z oddajniki ne vstopajte, straži ga manjša vojaška enota.

Zakladek se nahaja na pol poti od Krima do bližnjega Malinovca, deset minut sprehoda od vrha Krima. Očitne poti sicer ni, a gozd je lahko prehoden.

Do vrha Krima vodi veliko poti. Tudi z avtomobilom se lahko pripeljete po makadamski cesti vse do parkirišča tik pod vrhom, lahko iz Iga, boljša cesta pa je od sedla malo pred Rakitno (Brezovica pri Ljubljani / Podpeč / Kamnik pod Krimom / Rakitna).

A pripeljati se z avtomobilom vse do cilja je pol manj zabavno kot iti peš vsaj del poti. Spodaj je nekaj spletnih strani z opisi nekaterih poti, pa tudi v knjigah se marsikaj najde. Nama naljubša pot se od asfaltne ceste, ki pelje na Rakitno, odcepi pri lovskem domu Plehanov laz (P1) (glej zemljevid na geopedia.si spodaj), nato se lahko peljemo še 3 km po gozdni cesti do točke P2, kjer lahko parkiramo. Od tam krenemo po markirani poti navzgor, mimo majhnega zavetišča Kavc (pokukajte v omarico za 'prvo pomoč' na hišici!). Do vrha potrebujemo nekaj več kot uro. Pot dvakrat prečka gozdne ceste (P3, P4), tudi tam je možno začeti izlet.

Majhno opozorilo: širše hribovito področje Krima je domovanje medveda. Dokler se držimo ustaljenih poti in obiskovanih področij se nam ni treba bati srečanja. Tavanju po pogorju, še posebno zjutraj in ponoči, pa se je bolje izogniti.
