Geocache Description:

A 35mm film can on a footpath near Old Warden airfield

This cache, one of a series of caches celebrating the aircraft of the Shuttleworth Collection at Old Warden, is on a footpath near the airfield, on the Old Warden Circular Walk.

The series has a bonus cache: each cache contains a letter/number combination that you'll need to find the bonus.

Some waypoints for parking, and a suggested route around the series, are given on the page for the bonus cache (GC1Q0ME)

English Electric are perhaps best known for the Lightning - the spectacular supersonic interceptor of the cold war.
The Wren, a 100kg 8hp built in 1923 for the Lympne trials, is quite a contrast!
Only three Wrens were ever built; the Shuttleworth Collection's Wren was rebuilt by cannibalising the other surviving airframe, and is the only example remaining.

Because it's powered by little more than a lawnmower engine which is now eighty years old, it needs a little help to get into the air. At Shuttleworth air displays this is achieved with some very long bungees and a some very tired volunteers!
(mapmand are often two of the volunteers)

You can see the Wren at the collection all year round, and flying (if the wind's suitable) at Shuttleworth air displays, held approximately fortnightly May to October. (visit link)

Amenities: The Shuttleworth Collection has a cafe, gift shop and toilets, there's a pub that serves food in Old Warden village, and a farm shop in Upper Caldecote.
