Calverton is comprised of 3 hamlets know as the Wealds. There's Upper, Middle and Lower Weald. This parish church is located in the largest, Lower Weald.
The church at Calverton is dedicated to All Saints. The majority of the current church dates to the early 19th Century, mostly replacing the medieval structure when that fell in to disrepair.
The earliest recorded mention of a chuch on this site is in 1068, that's just 2 years after the Conquest. There is no reason not to believe that a church didn't existed here earlier. This area (Bucks, Oxon and Berks) was an early centre of missionary Christianity; converting the local, pagan, West Saxons. We can speculate that this area of North Buckinghamshire / South Northants was important to the Anglo Saxon Royalty. There is mention in the Domesday Book of 1086 that the manor was held by a thane of King Edward, before the Conquest. In addition, nearby Passenham was a Royal Estate, where the son of Alfred the Great stationed his army in 921. Of course the earlier churches would be much simpler, more modest buildings. Mostly of wood, wattle and daub and thatch, there is little or no trace of these previous structures.
