Some little known facts about our Leonardo:-

Leonardo was born in Italy around 1170. His mother died when he was nine years old. As a young boy, Leonardo traveled with his father to North Africa. This is where he learned about the Hindu-Arabic numeral system. He returned to Italy around 1200 and in 1202 he published what he had learned and thereby introduced Hindu-Arabic numerals to Europe. He died around 1250. In the 19th century, a statue of him was constructed and erected in Pisa.
