St Nicholas, Tillingham

Tillingham is one of those glorious little villages that seems to have it all. An excellent pub, a village green, clapperboard houses and the quintessential English Church complete with tower and battlements.
Parts of the church are 13th & 14th Century although the south aisle was rebuilt in 1866. The tower is massively butressed and contains a set of 6 bells reknown in Essex ringing circles. Firstly the bells are in a minor key and the "best fit" for their tuning is notes 2-7 of a normal 8 note scale. Secondly there has been a bell cast in every century from the 15th -19th centuries. The oldest dating c1440 & c1513 were probably cast in the churchyard itself.
In addition to the church Tillingham also has a small car park and playing fields opposite the church in addition to toilet facilities. Whilst you're here why not enjoy the Cap & Feathers Public House which itself dates back to the 15th Century
