Geocache Description:

A nano cache near to the station at Currour on the West Highland Line

The railway station is one of the most remote stations in the United Kingdom, at an isolated location on Rannoch Moor. The station is not accessible by any public roads. The original Station House reopened in 2006, providing a cafe and bed and breakfast accommodation. At over 1,300 feet above sea level the station provides a convenient starting point for hill-walkers and Munro-baggers. Loch Ossian Hostel, one of the most remote youth hostels in the UK, is about one mile from the railway station.

The Station is on the Road to The Isles and ancient trackway through the Highlands to Fort William - and this is the second of two caches on the route

This station opened to passengers on 7 August 1894, The North British Railway Company stated the station was there to provide a place that trains could pass on the single line between Tulloch and Rannoch - the fact that one of the company directors owned one of the nearby shooting lodges was of course completely coincidental

The former signal box and attached signalmens quarters was open as a bunkhouse for a number of years, but sadly this is now closed, however the Station House and nearby Youth Hostel provide accomadation

The station and the nearby Corbett (Scottish Hill over 2500ft) Leum Uilleim featured in the film "Trainspotting" - if venturing out into the vast bleak wilderness that surrounds the station please ensure that you have appropriate clothing and survival skills

Congratulations to Threepennybits on the FTF
