The Reeds Wetland CITO event Cache In Trash Out Event

This cache has been archived.

RedGlobe: Again THANKS to every one who helped to clean the wetland. We revisited the site and were disappointed to find the rubble back into the steam leading from the school next door. To assist in the future, we have hidden a new cache and hopefully the trash can be picked up every time a cacher visits the new cache.

To make sure the cachers spends lots of time at site; we have made the new cache VERY SNEAKY.

Geocache Description:

The Gauteng CITO event will be held on the 2nd of May 2009 from 10H30 – 15H00 to form part of the celebration of the 7th Annual International Cache In Trash Out Events that are scheduled for May 2nd & 3rd, 2009 where geocachers have an opportunity to participate in coordinated worldwide clean-up efforts. Geocachers host clean-up events in their local area on the same day or weekend as other geocachers around the world. Together, we make an enormous positive impact.

We will meet at the listed waypoint close to the parking area at 10H30 and start the cleanup process from this waypoint at 11H00. The area is very large but we will start in a strait line from the road and work along the stream between the schools fence and the houses until about 15H00. With the central location between Pretoria and Johannesburg we hope to attract most of the Gauteng geocachers.

The Reeds Wetlands area:
Tshwane resort and park management have appointed The Reeds Wetland as the area they want the geocachers and helpers on a cleanup effort. The Reeds Wetland is located next to the Uitsig Secondary School in a urban area.

What will be provided?
Trash bags will be donated by the Tshwane parks manager. We will collect all the filled trash bags on the day and dump it at the nearby Refuse site.

You must bring the following items:

  • Bring your own drinking water, as there is no clean drinking water available.
  • Bring your own gloves.
  • Bring your own snack, as the day might be long.
  • A special stick with a pointy tip is very handy to get trash out of icky places.

After all the trash bags have been collected:
We will get together on site for a group photo (with the evidence from the days successes in the background) and a attendance register will be signed. (Please note; only teams that formed part of the cleanup process will be allowed to log a attendance note)

We will get together again at the Rooihuiskraal Historical terrain next to the Refuse site (after all the trash bags have been dropped at the Refuse site) for a “bring and braai” to relax after the hard days efforts. This “bring and braai” will be at the “Kleinstal Lapa” inside the Rooihuiskraal Historical terrain. I will update the waypoint for the change in venue soon. (Thanks John for the bookings again)
