Geocache Description:

Cache placed on one of the 'seven mountains' in Bergen, offering a stunning view.

This cache is placed near the top of Rundemanen - one of 'the seven mountains' surrounding Bergen. The houses you see around you when standing at the cache location, remains from the time when a radio station was located here.

Photo: LK. Gloppestad, 2007.

The radio station was established in 1912, as one of Norway's coastal radio stations. The road, on which you probably will be walking, from Bergen to Rundemanen was built to transport material, and has been used for transport and by hikers since.

During WWII, the German occupation forces also maintained a radio station here, as well as anti-aircraft guns on Blåmanen, where you will also find a cache (GC16B10). The bunker, which can bee seen on Rundemanen, was also built during WWII, and housed ammunition.

After the war, a radio station was maintained on the top until about 1986. From 1912 to 1961, four families lived on the top - there were children living here until 1964 - they had to walk down to Fløyen and take the 'Fløybanen' down to the city to attend school. After 1961, activity on the top was reduced, and the last technicians living on the top left in 1986.

The large mast (a little similar to the Eiffel tower in appearance) was built in the 1970s, and is a carrier for radio-, cellphone- and non-public radio links.

Be sure to bring a binocular if you can - the view from the top is stunning, and you are able to see wide and far.

----About the cache----

The cache is a standard-size cache, about 22x12x6 cm, with sufficient room for items for trade and travel bugs. Cache may not be available in winter, this depends on the amount of snow. It will probably not be avaliable from November/December until February. An earlier, now disabled cache was located in the same area: GCRR9N.

There are some spoiler pictures provided (of rather low quality), however, the coordinates provided (1,5 m accuracy) and the hint should make this a fairly easy find, even without pictures.
