OK here is the scenario: I’m sitting here thinking about new and exciting ways of placing my next cache. I remember of a conversation me and a friend had concerning the probable error in range of an object released from an aircraft while in flight. And then the gears start turning. I quickly start planning out this cache in detail and resourcing what I will need to place it.

One UH-60L Blackhawk Helicopter with pilot able to carry me and the cache. Well I just so happen to be affiliated with such of an organization capable of making this happen. Here it comes yes you guessed it. This cache was released during flight.

In order to find the Point of Impact you will be required to do some serious thinking about Physics (WHAT) Yes Physics. I will give you the information that you will need to figure out the solution to problem which is how on earth do I find the cache? Make sure you make a note or download the Waypoint for the trail head which is near the RP and where you should Park. Also there is more then one formula that you can use to solve the math. The question is are you going to use the sameone that I did when I placed this cache? Most will get you close enough to it.












The following information is giving to you.

Aircraft speed 90 knots horizontal flight Aircraft altitude 60 meters consistent Aircraft Flight Heading 149 degrees true Release Point (first stage of this cache) which will be clearly visible considering I had to be able to see it from the AIR.
NOTE: The Panal has been replaced by a 4 x 4 post in the ground painted blaze Orange Labeled with RP.



Additional info that you may want to know but is not necessary needed.

 Wind speed and direction from the South at 3 knots.(not enough to make a difference on the Point of Impact (POI)

Size, Shape and weight of container .50 caliber Ammo can length = 11 inches, Height = 7 inches, width = 6 inches Weight = 10 lbs (All good info but not necessarily important for this application) But if you decide to formulate the density of the object you would need this info.

Now you have all the info you need to find the (POI) of this cache. The Cache it self is painted blaze orange with reflective tape and a Geocaching sticker on the side providing that the markings survived the impact. I’m sure the can is fine.
