Geocache Description:

NOTE: Serious geocachers carry their own tools. There may or may not be a pen in the cache!

This is one of a series of caches that commemorate the fifteen Division 1-A football national championships* won by The University of Alabama Crimson Tide. Each cache represents one of the NC wins and includes a brief story about the team. Links to the other hides in this series can be found in the bookmark listing to the right.

*There is a lot of debate among fans, foes, and interested observers on the real number. The actual number lies between 10 and 20. See (visit link) if you are a glutton for punishment...At any rate, 15 is what is claimed by the University, so 15 caches. Deal with it.

This cache commemorates the 1930 Alabama Crimson Tide team. In Wallace Wade's final season as head coach before his departure for then-football-powerhouse Duke University, he led his boys to a 10-0 record and a third invite to the Rose Bowl. This time the opponent was Washington State, but the result was the same as the Tide posted a 24-0 win on January 1st, 1931. Among the many stars of the team was Fred Sington, who was considered by most to be the best player in the nation. He was the subject of "Football Freddie," a popular song that year crooned by Rudy Vallee in honor of the Alabama star.
