Cette cache est dédiée à Barbazan, commune qui se bat pour préserver son patrimoine.
1/ LES THERMES.
A l’époque romaine, les eaux de la région étaient déjà connues, comme l’ a attesté la présence de Pompée à Lugdunum Convenarum (St Bertrand de Comminges à l’époque des Romains) en 72 av. J.C., ainsi que la découverte d’armes de l’époque de César à proximité d’une source.
En 1852, des analyses déterminèrent les caractéristiques de ces eaux, qui soignaient les affections digestives.
Les thermes durent leur réputation à François d’ Epinay ( général de Guyenne de 1644 à 1670), qui faisait une cure tous les ans. Mais à cette époque, les installations encore sommaires étaient réduites à une chaumière et deux baignoires !! Le médecin de Louis XIV disait : « Elles font plus de cocus qu’elles ne guérissent de malades » …….
La station fut florissante pendant la période coloniale, car on y soignait le paludisme qui faisait des ravages.
Le bâtiment actuel fut édifié en 1901. Il est actuellement fermé.
2/ LE KIOSQUE BUVETTE.
Installé en 1907, ce kiosque abritait un système de distribution composé d’une boule de verre d’où l’eau s’écoulait. Mais il a été vandalisé, et une réhabilitation s’impose.
Le 26 septembre 2006, la commune de Barbazan est devenue propriétaire des Thermes de Barbazan à part entière, en totalité et pour la première fois dans l’histoire.
L’objectif premier de cette acquisition est la sauvegarde du patrimoine de la commune. Ainsi, le bâtiment thermal et la buvette, mais également le parc de 4,2 hectares, retrouveront une nouvelle jeunesse. L’échelle de temps n’est pas annoncée, étant donnée l’ampleur de la tâche.
3/ LA CHAPELLE INACHEVEE.
Aux environs de 1885, un prêtre en cure à Barbazan proposa la construction d’une chapelle. Il ramassa des fonds parmi les curistes et les travaux commencèrent. Mais il ne put mener à bien l’œuvre commencée car il tomba malade. Personne ne prit la relève et l’entreprise fut abandonnée, faute de moyens. On l’appelle « la Chapelle Inachevée ».

1/ THE SPA.
In Roman time, these waters were already known, as testified by the presence of Pompey in Lugdunum Convenarum (St Bertrand de Comminges in Roman times) in 72 BC, as well as the discovery of weapons dating from Caesar’s era next to a spring.
In 1852, analysis studies determined the characteristics of these waters, which treat digestive disorders.
The spa got their reputation from François d 'Epinay (General of Guyenne from 1644 to 1670), who came to take the waters every year. But at that time, the facilities were still basic and reduced to a cottage and two baths! Louis XIV’s doctor said: "They make more deceived husbands than cured people” ………...
The spa was flourishing during the colonial period, because it treated malaria which was rampant.
The first building was constructed in 1846; the present one in 1901. It is currently closed.
2/ THE REFRESHMENT KIOSK.
Placed in 1907, the kiosk housed a distribution system consisting of a glass bowl from which water flowed. But it was vandalised and rehabilitation is needed.
On 26 September 2006, for the first time in history, Barbazan town council became the owner of the spa. The primary objective of this acquisition is to safeguard the heritage of the town. So, the spa and refreshment kiosk, but also the 4.2 ha park will find a new youth. The time scale is not given, due to the magnitude of the task.
3/ THE UNFINISHED CHAPEL.
Around 1885, a priest who had come to Barabazan to take the waters proposed the construction of a chapel. He got funding from the other patients and the work began. But he could not carry it out because he fell ill. Nodoby took over and the work was abandoned for lack of means. It is called “the Unfinished Chapel”.
