Geocache Description:

This cache is hidden near the Way Stone, an outcrop of rock overlooking the M62 motorway as it crosses from Yorkshire into Lancashire over Windy Hill. Credit & thanks to the original CO Muttoneer for producing this cache & allowing us to become the guardians.

Parking is available near the Windy Hill transmitter mast just south of Junction 22. The best approach to the cache is along the Pennine Way to White Hill, where you will find a well maintained trigpoint and a good geocache.

From Windy Hill, follow a straight line to the cache with your GPS and you should pick up a faint track. You'll need to cross a stream and the way there is very soft underfoot with large bare banks of peat between the tussocky grasses.

On approaching the cache site you might wonder which of the stones is the Way Stone. Personally I'd go for the largest one as it can be seen from a long way away and would have acted as a good way marker in times gone by.

The cache is a plastic canister hidden a short distance northeast of this big rock. You won't find the hint much help I'm afraid - there's not a lot of distinguishing features here! Please make sure you replace the water cover and screw the lid back on tightly when you've finished.

Enjoy your walk!
