Histoire :
C’est en 1961 que Michel Ziegler, pionnier de l’aviation en montagne et fondateur de la société Air-Alpes, convainc la municipalité de Sain-Bon de construire un altiport à 2000m d’altitude. Le terme Altiport est inventé. Dès 1962, Air-Alpes assure des liaisons nationales et internationales régulières telles que Courchevel / Lyon et Courchevel / Genève. Plus tard des liaisons supplémentaires seront ajoutées : Nice (1969), Paris (1971).
La piste de l’altiport de Courchevel est caractéristique des terrains d’aviation de montagne : une longueur de 540m virtuellement doublée par une pente de 18% (écart d’altitude entre les deux extrémité d’environ 65m). Une telle piste autorise l’utilisation non seulement de petits monomoteurs personnels mais aussi d’avions de plus grande capacité capables de transporter une vingtaine de passagers. Atterrir ou décoller d’un terrain en montagne tel que celui-ci demande une licence particulière.
Près de la cache, vous aurez une vue sur l’Altiport, ainsi que sur un centre de loisirs pratiquant diverses activités telles que l’initiation à la motoneige, à la conduite sur route glacée, ainsi qu’à l’escalade sur un mur de glace artificiel.

History:
In 1961, Michel Ziegler, mountain aviation pioneer and founder of Air-Alpes company, convinced the municipality of Saint-Bon to build an airfield at 2000m altitude. In 1962, Air-Alpes operates regular national and international winter links: Courchevel / Lyon and Courchevel / Geneva. Later, additional connections are added: Nice (1969), Paris (1971).
The runway of the Courchevel’s Altiport is characteristic of mountain airfields: a length of 540m virtually doubled by a slope of 18% (difference in elevation between the two ends is around 65m). This track allows the use not only of small personal aircraft, but also higher capacity capable of carrying twenty passengers. Landing or taking off a mountain airport like this requires a specific license.
Near the cache, you have a view on altiport, as well as a leisure centre where you may practice various activities such as snowmobile, driving on icy road and climbing a artificial ice wall.

La cache:
La boîte est une petite, tupperware étanche d’environ 5 cm x 4 cm x 3 cm. Elle peut recevoir quelques objets pas trop gros.
Afin d’être accessible été comme hiver, elle est accrochée dans les branches d’un sapin.
Avertissement : En hiver, la neige peut être très profonde à cet endroit. Il est déconseillé de s’y rendre sans skis ou ni raquettes, vous risquerez de vous enfoncer jusqu’à la taille. Il vous faudra pousser un peu sur les batons pour rejoindre et quitter la cache. |
The cache:
The box is a small, waterproof tupperware of approximately 5 cm x 4 cm x 3 cm. It can receive a few items but not too bigs.
In order to be reachable both in summer and winter, the box is hanging into the branches of a tree.
Warning: In winter, snow can be quite deep there. It is unadvised to reach the cache without skis nor rackets. You will have to push on your sticks to reach or leave the cache. |
