This is a nano cache, number 481 in the Church Micro series,
located at St John the Baptist Church, Purbrook, Hants This cache
is placed with the kind permission of the PCC.
St John the Baptist is in the centre of Purbrook, ‘over the Hill’,
on the A3, to the north of Portsmouth. Purbrook is a Parish of
approximately 10,000 people shortly to be enlarged by the southern
part of the 'West of Waterlooville Major Development Area' (a
development of eventually 4,500 houses). The church is located in
the extreme South Western corner of the Parish and has a 150 year
old Victorian Church building, a Church Hall which has recently
been renovated, and, in the shopping parade 500 yards south, a
Coffee Shop, Broadways Coffee Shop. The tower at St John’s has six
bells. They were installed in 2000 to celebrate the Millennium with
the aid of the Millennium Bell Fund. They regularly ring for the
10.00 a.m. Sunday service and also for Weddings and other Special
Services. This cache has been hidden by the bellringing Tower
Captain and Steeple-keeper geocachers. The Church clock is also 150
years old, manufactured by Gillett and Johnston but given an
upgrade at the time of the bells installation. Automated winding
mechanics were installed, which removed the need to manually wind
the weights weekly/weakly back to the top of the tower and gave
room for the ringing chamber on the first floor of the tower. The
Lych-gate to the church yard is a war memorial to those locals who
gave their lives during WW1 or WW2 and one of the more unusual
graves in the churchyard is Commonwealth War Graves Commission
stone dedicated to a RN Wren who died in 1943. The cache is a
magnetic nano and a pen/pencil will be needed to log your visit

If anybody would like to expand to this series please do, I would
just ask that you could let Sadexploration know first so he can
keep track of the Church numbers and names to avoid duplication
