Geocache Description:

Stockholm Klara kyrka - Extremt hög mugglarrisk! Var försiktig. Klara church - Extremly high risk of mugglers! Be aware. __________________________________________

Klara kyrka ligger idag på platsen för det gamla Clara kloster som byggdes under medeltiden, ca 1280. Klostret revs dock på order av Gustav Vasa under reformationen 1527 varvid nunnorna fick flytta till den närbelägna Riddarholmen.

Den nuvarande kyrkan lät uppföras 1575-90 av Johan III, som anlitade den holländske byggmästaren Henrik van Huwen, troligtvis var även Willem Boy anlitad, i egenskap av kungens främste arkitekt. Sedan dess har kyrkan genomgått ett antal stora renoveringar 1751-90 och 1884-88, 1906-07 samt 1963-65.

Under 1905-6 gjordes flera arkeologiska undersökningar i området, varvid tegel och och byggnadsrester undersöktes. Kyrkogården, som i stort sett har samma sträckning som på 1600-talet, är nästan helt kringbyggd av modern bebyggelse. Det sägs spöka på gården....

[Eng.] Klara church is today on the site of the old Clara Monastery which was built during the Middle Ages, around 1280. The monastery was though destroyed on the orders of King Gustav Vasa during the Reformation of 1527 and the nuns had to move to the closeby island of Riddarholmen.

The present church was built 1575-90 by Johan III, who hired the dutch builder Henrik van Huwen, probably with help from Willem Boy, as he was the king's principal architect.
Since then, the church has undergone some major renovations, 1751-90 and 1884-88, 1906-07 and 1963-65.
During 1905-6 there were several archaeological investigations in the field, were bricks, construction and residues were examined.
The cemetery, which essentially has the same extent as in the 1600s, is almost entirely built around the modern building. It is said to be haunted...
