When:
Sunday 26th April 2008
Where:
The Tolosa Park, at the above co-ordinates. Children are
welcome.
Time:
9:30 a.m.
Briefings start at 9.45 The first team will set out on the hunt
shortly after that and then return for the munch at 12.30. This
will coincide with Doing The Right Thing CITO Event
Details:
Teams will be going out on a 2ish hour car treasure hunt. Followed
by lunch. Details and full instructions on the day re format of
'treasure hunt' when you arrive.
Teams:
I would advise teams of 4-5 people per car.
If you wish to form a team please let me know by email giving me
your ‘team’ name, cachers names, number of people in your
team.
For cachers wishing to combine with other cachers either organise
between you and let me know or alternatively let me know and I can
'pair' you up.
Please note: IF last year was anything to go on I am hoping that
this will be an popular event. So it is on a first come first
served basis. I am limiting the number of cars to 15 teams on the
road, so please organise teams if possible before contacting me
(full cars please).
I would prefer no on the day entries. All teams must be notified to
me by 5pm Friday 24th April, however if you turn up, I will try to
accommodate you. - Subject to availability.
Clues:
The basic format will be that you will be setting out looking for
GPS co-ordinates, and answering questions.
I may have a few other surprises up my sleeve this year.
Prizes:
In order to cut down on my costs, It would be appreciated if every
team could bring an item suitable to put in a cache box (around $2
per person or 1 prize around $8 - $10 per car). These will then be
given out as prizes.
Co-ordinates:
On the day I will provide instructions, questions and full
co-ordinates. You do not have to do any pre work before the
day.
However, if you wish to save time at midnight on Saturday 25nd
April, I shall create a full list of all the waypoints you will
need on the treasure hunt on this cache page, so these can be
downloaded (or typed into your GPS) on Saturday morning.
By using these I will allow you to program your GPS, but under no
circumstances must you use any of the data to pre-plan any route,
before you arrive.
This service is just to allow you to update your GPS, to avoid
having to manually type in the co-ords when you receive them at
9.45. PLEASE DO NOT CHEAT!!
What do you need:
• Car full of cachers and petrol
• 2 + GPS per car (no mapping software)
• Road Map
• NO satnavs or equivalent
• Prizes (see above!)
• Means to take a digital picture
• A writing implement
Maps:
You will require either a road atlas or any map that covers the
greater Hobart area.
The Munch:
Bring along food and beverages of choice. I will make sure that the
bbq is hot when you return.
Important Instructions:
As cache/event setter I cannot accept any responsibility for any
problems encountered during the day, including motoring accidents,
speeding etc etc.
It is entirely your responsibility if you take part in the
event.
By setting out to this event, the driver is responsible for any
third party action that may arise during the day. I as organiser am
not responsible for any actions by yourself at all.
See notes below re driver
The route could be 50+ Kilometres so please ensure you have a full
tank of petrol as time is of the essence.
It might be advisable to bring a paper road map (includes minor
roads) and have at least two GPS's in the car.
Please note that Pocket PC's / In car Navigation software etc etc
will be banned on the day!
Map software on GPS's will also be banned.
Although there is no way I can enforce these rules, please abide by
them and make it a fair 'competition'.
Full rules and instructions will be given on the day. First vehicle
to depart by 9.45pm so please be prompt!
Driver:
The Driver has to apply to all Tasmanian driving laws and therefore
as such take no part in the treasure hunt (looking at GPS, reading
maps, making decisions etc. He/she can take instructions from
passengers as to which direction to drive in).
He/she must be in full control of the vehicle and even though the
event is time based all speeding laws must be followed, and
obviously drive slower if the conditions require.
Co-ordinates must be passed if the road conditions or traffic does
not allow safe stopping.
It is the driver’s complete responsibility for the event and
his/her passengers.
Driving faster than you would for an 'average' day out in the
countryside is the driver’s responsibility, and I suggest for this
event that it should not happen.
Attendance:
Due to the CITO event being held at 12.30 (it is also part of the
hunt), to be able to log an attendance at this event, you must take
part in the hunt, for people that would like to take part in the
event but can't make it by the start time email me and I'll see if
we can arrange something.
The table below shows the information that I require before the
event.
***Update 13/3/09*** Some people have taken the liberty
to include their final placing as information needed. Yes I did say
that I needed it but I didn't. So to make it fun if you can guess
your final placing correctly there will be an extra prize for those
that get it correct.
