Geocache Description:

At 843m, the Merrick is the highest Corbett in Southern Scotland. The walk to the summit is widely regarded as one of the most scenic and enjoyable walks in Scotland. To make it worthwhile, there are two others to bag on route!

Merrick and the Range of the Awful Hand from Craignaw

Provided you are suitably equipped with proper footwear, clothing and food, the route to the Merrick summit is a clearly defined and rewarding walk from the car parking area at NX 41553 80415. The so called tourist route follows the Buchan Burn to Culsharg before ascending Benyellary and traversing the Neive of the Spit onto the shoulder of the mighty Merrick. The views from the summit, on a clear day, are quite magnificent. Ben Lomond to the north and the Paps of Jura to the north west might be two identifiable locations you should be able to identify.

If you feel energetic and are suitably equipped for a true hillwalking experience, you might like to make a day of it and visit the following nearby caches:

You are looking for a small container with a blue lid.

Happy hunting!

Thanks to Forestry Commission Scotland for allowing this cache to be placed.

FTF - Headie D - a great achievement in the weather conditions!
