The given
reference for this multi-cache is referred to as Waypoint 1
which is at:
N 51° 21.079 W
000° 49.431
This is one of a
number of multi-caches based on Toby Dog’s favourite walking places
in around Yateley. Each takes up to around 45 minutes depending on
how many times Toby stops for a sniff or to play with his puppy-dog
pals. All are listed in my
Toby Dog’s Walks bookmark.
Horseshoe Lake
near Yateley is part of an extensive network of gravel pits that
have been flooded to form a series of lakes. It was the first lake
in the area to be dug for gravel in the 1980s and is named after
its horseshoe shaped island.
The lake is home
to a watersports centre which caters for dinghy sailing,
windsurfing, dragon boating, canoeing and raft building. It
attracts a wide variety of birds and is adjacent to the Blackwater
River and the Moor Green Lakes Nature Reserve – a very popular bird
watching area.
This “solid as a
rock” micro multi-cache (large enough for a log, mini pencil and
three 25cm caching badges) is located on the shore of the lake and
the directions will take you on a 30 to 45 minute circular walk.
Alternatively, the distance and bearing from each waypoint to the
next is given if you’d rather take a much shorter walk from the car
park directly to the cache.

The cache is a
micro container correctly described earlier as “solid”. It was well
concealed around a metre above the ground when first placed and is
very close to the water’s edge. Once you’ve logged your visit
please take the time to make sure that it is not visible as this
narrow waterside path seems to be used by Mugglers from time to
time.
