Hi, this is Seals first cache.
Everyone is familiar with the River Thames, probably London's greatest wildlife asset. However, there are many rivers and streams throughout the capital which are worth exploring.
Hundreds of miles of rivers were contained in concrete gutters or channelled underground in the last century. However this is causing problems with flooding and harming wildlife. In order to return the capital to nature, the Environment Agency is planning to restore 9 miles of rivers by 2015 creating wetlands with cycle way’s, footpaths and open spaces as well as habitat for many forms of wildlife including kingfishers and several types of dragonfly.
The water that you see is Beverly Brook. It runs through both Richmond Park and Wimbledon Common, leading into the Thames near Barn Elms in Barnes.
The cache position is not far from Priests Bridge where it reappears after running under the Upper Richmond Road.
The little pathway is a shortcut to the houses to the West of Barnes station and Upper Richmond Road towards Barnes, East Sheen or Richmond, it’s very popular with commuters and doggie walkers. Good luck and happy hunting.
