Hill Colleges Cache Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

Maestro McAllister: Hey everyone,

I placed this cache thirteen and a half years ago (!!) when I was living and studying in Cambridge. It has had 624 successful finds and a 97% find success rate, with several log book replacements, countless travel bugs and coins visiting over the years, and hundreds of lovely messages from visitors all over the world. In all that time, the box has been replaced maybe only once or twice.

I left Cambridge in May 2017 to pursue greener pastures further afield, and decided to leave this cache up as long as it was still running. It has kept going without my supervision for five whole years now, which is incredible! But after 4 DNFs in a row, and no way to check on it myself, I believe it is time to say goodbye.

Thank you so much to everyone who took the time to visit it, sign the logbook and log it online! I have enjoyed reading the messages over the years and hope you enjoyed your visit to this quieter corner of Cambridge. TFTC!

With love,

Maestro

Geocache Description:

A small tuppaware box hidden just off trail in a quieter part of Cambridge, dedicated to student geocachers and fed-up tourists who just want a straightforward cache in which to leave presents and travel bugs. Muggle-avoidance skills needed - though most of them are on bikes and hurriedly rushing to lectures so they don't pay much attention anyway.

There are 31 student colleges in the University of Cambridge, of which 6 are considered to reside 'on the hill' - Girton, Fitzwilliam, Murray Edwards, Churchill, Lucy Cavendish and St. Edmunds. These colleges (and others also further out from the centre) are known for their quieter and friendlier atmospheres away from the hustle and bustle of Cambridge city centre - and they can all be found a short distance from this cache: Lucy Cavendish and St. Edmunds can be found round the corner, Churchill just up the road and Fitzwilliam and Murray Edwards a bit further up. Although Girton itself is far out into the village of Girton, it has accommodation closer to town - the Wolfson Hall can be found just on the other side of the path. Although these colleges are newer and much less well known than their city-centre counterparts, they each house their own well-kept secrets and this cache is en-route to the city centre for many of their students. There is parking on Clarkson Road, but if you are walking up or cycling from the town centre it is worth coming up via Burrel's Walk and having a look at the University Library... Enjoy:)
