Geocache Description:

Quick roadside cache in quiet suburb.

This is our 5th. Cache in the Hill series.
Saint Charles’ Catholic Church, often known as “The Lemon Squeezer” has been a landmark in Victory Park since 1966. The latest addition is a set of 18 magnificent stained glass windows, collectively entitled, “The History of Salvation”. This is a wonderful return to traditional religious art- in a modern setting, with the odd local touch for good measure. This is a major addition to the artistic heritage of our city. History of the parish- it was founded in 1949 by the ONI fathers- who in turn arrived in South Africa in 1852.
Points of interest at the church –
Lourdes Grotto (dating from the centenary of 1958)
The architectural features of this extraordinary church.
The many religious signs and symbols- in themselves a sizable art collection.
And above all, the magnificent stained glass windows.

This church holds special memories for me, as this is the church my wife and I got married in 28 years ago! The Linden area was part of my life, as a child, as we lived in the area and attended mass and catechism lessons here. Friday nights were spent attending “sessions” at the “ Lemon Squeezer”, ( nicknamed this because of the church’s shape).
