The former name of this cache referred to a very large and nice wall painting representing a mix of Niagara and Iguazu falls (see Gallery and here). Now because of the on-going construction work the wall has been dismounted.
They are busy (bee-sy) building (bee-lding) the new headquarters of the French parliament in Brussels (Cocof).
As you can see on the pictures, this block of 2,000 m2 will look like a giant beehive with its numerous alveoli.
This new fully glazed hive will be a passive building (below 15 K standard Kw/hour/m2) thanks to a series of improvements to reduce its energy footprint: triple glazing, increased insulation of the roof, living roof, geothermal heating (TBC), rainwater harvesting, intelligent heating, etc.
About 8.5 million will be needed, including 2.5 for the complete renovation of the former post (1695) hidden just behind and to house a large showroom on its ground floor.
Pending completion of the construction of this new building you still have the opportunity to admire the Brussels Parliament 's neoclassical building dating from the beginning of the 20th century. Different storeys have been converted into committee rooms, and on its roof a new hemicycle has been constructed. As the new construction is slightly set back from the street front the old parts of the building can still be clearly distinguished but a better view of the contemporary architecture is also offered.
