Geocache Description:

Scouting scramble around West Dean

This is a series of 30 cache’s placed in circular walks around West Dean.
This series has been put out with Scouts, Cubs, Guides, and Brownies in mind, although anyone is welcome to try these out.

The walk can be done in several ways and can get muddy during wet periods, the terrain is quite uneven in places and hilly.

There are 19 Micros, (35mm film cartridges) most of which have bonus numbers in for a bigger Bonus Box. There are also 10 other bigger containers to make the route a bit more fun, these are small but big enough for some trade items. The bigger containers have been loaded with a few Scouting type goodies, Whistle, Compasses, torches, and blanket badges ETC.

The route has several possible parking places, see additional waypionts. Please park sensibly.
There is also access to this series by Bus, the route is number 60 and runs from Bognor via Chichester to Midhurst, Every half hour or so.

There are a few roads that need be crossed and travelled along, I have tried to keep these to a minimum, but care should be taken!!

West Dean Scout hut no longer has an active Scout group but Brownies and Guides meet weekly at the hut which also acts as Chichester and Midhurst District headquarters, and also Acts as the District Scout Shop. During term time it is open on Saturday mornings 9.00 – 12.00. and has a range of Badges, Uniforms and other scouting items, should you require anything.
Along this Cache route if you require, you will pass the Selsey Arms public house, West Dean Stores where provisions could be purchased and West Dean Gardens which have tea rooms and very nice gardens.

This series also incorperates some of the Chalk Stone Walk, a series of sculpted chalk stones set out along a path from Cocking hill car park to West Dean. See Link For More Details: (visit link)

Any Scouting, Guiding or any other youth organisation wishing to use these caches as an activity please email me as i am putting a Geocache activity pack together to help.

Youth Groups wishing to do this course may park near to Scout and about DHQ GC1HRMW cache outside the hut or camping field.
This would allow you to have the choice of which circuit you do.
Recommendations:
For Cubs and Brownies, start with #1 then #2-#3-#4-big#1-#5-big#10-big#9-big#8-big#7-big#6 then finish with big#5 and walk back to the start.
Scouts and guides, start with #1 then #2-#3-#4-big#1-#5-#6-#7-big#2-#8-#9-#10-big#3-#13-#14 then on to big#4 and back to the start.
Explorers and Rangers, do the lot.
From each of the circuits you will be able to get all the clues for the bonus box.
These recommendations are based on meeting times, and should be achievable as long as you don’t spend much time searching for the caches.
