Geocache Description:

"Ohio Spirit Quest"

The Ohio Spirit Quest series of geocaches will take you to a number of historic cemeteries built by Buckeye Pioneers. This series is inspired by and a continuation of the Indiana Spirit Quest caches created by Six Dog Team. In just over three years, the SPIRIT QUEST has grown to over 550 caches, with the hiding teams growing as well. The Ohio Spirit Quest has begun to grown to over 30 in Ohio, with five current caching teams, three each with A Man and His Dog, one with a Couple and Their Dog... and one with A Woman and her Dog. Over 1,000 cachers have logged over 20,000 finds. One cache machine found 111 ISQ caches in a single day (daylight hours only).

Come with us now for a virtual tour of this burial ground via this page, then go out and find the cache!

Welcome to Dutch Ridge Cemetery

Fulton Twp, Fulton County, Ohio
OHIO SPIRIT QUEST #36
"Lytton, Ghost Town"

The Dutch Ridge Cemetery is located three-quarter mile south of Lytton, on the west side of Township Road 5, one-quarter mile north of County Road M.

Lytton was a Post office town which operated between March 3, 1893 and July 15, 1895 with John R. Babcock as postmaster , then January 6, 1896 and August 31, 1903 with Samuel Everett as the postmaster. Mail service was transferred to Delta, OH. Little is left to remind locals that this town existed except for the closed up general store on County Roads N and 5. The Lytton Zion United Church is also located on County Road 5, just south of County Road N.

The ground occupied by the cemetery was deeded to B. Poorman in 1835. The first burials were made before 1850. In 1866 a Reformed Zions Kirche was built across the road to the south. The cemetery was placed under appointed trustees in 1873 and in 1925 the site became the responsibility of the township trustees.

What grabs the eye is the number of geometric shapes the tombstones take.
It's the first thing you notice upon entering these grounds.

The cache container, though listed as a "2", is a good deal larger than that. Just not quite a "3". Maybe a 2.5. Still great for any travelers!

If you find a fallen US flag, please stick it back in the ground. As always, please be respectful, and cache in, trash out.
