Geocache Description:

Easy cache that showcases an interesting building in Irene's history. There is a lot of movement in the area so be careful when lookig for the cache - Saturday afternoon and Sunday are good times to look. Not advisable at night if you are alone.

The cache is a small tube container with a logbook and pen. There is no space for trading items

This sandstone building was used as the local Post Office until it was closed down a few years ago. It now serves as an art shop but the post boxes are still active. Apart from the style of the building, there is also a beautiful ceramic tableau on one of the outside walls that depicts the Great Trek Centenary. It was designed by Rosa Hope in 1939. In the entrance portal there are also some interesting tiles depicting other aspects of Irene's history.
