Geocache Description:

Near a historic location an a short (200m) from the road. Road is easily accessible by 2WD however there is only parking available for 1 car. The walk seems to not be as well maintained as it has been in the past - don't panic if you appear to go the wrong way initially. Located in a National Park - no dogs please.

Small plastic container, usual contents.

Tom Turner was one of the original pioneers of the Augusta area. He arrived with his family in 1830 on the brig the Emily Taylor. He originally farmed north of the town and then in 1838 tried to farm near Cape Leeuwin. This was not very successful.
The site of Tom Turner’s farm can still be found. When you are on the scenic drive off Leeuwin Rd you will see the remains of the sign to Turners Spring. There is a parking space for one car, look for the steps and follow the track to the spring. At our last visit there was no water in the spring but in the past has boasted a good crop of watercress in the wet. From there a track has been cleared to the cottage. There are some magnificent grasstrees in the area.
