The Golden Silk Orb-weaver or Banana Spider (genus Nephila ) is one of many interesting creatures that may be found at Crosby Arboretum, a native plant conservatory located in southwest Mississippi. Prescribed burns, selective removal of invasive species, and controlled flooding are used to encourage the re-emergence of long dormant biological communities. Site features include the architecturally significant Pinecote pavilion by the late architect E. Fay Jones.

This cache is situated directly adjacent to the trail, so PLEASE stay on the trail.

If you geocache within wooded areas in the South, you are probably already familiar with the Orb-weaver, also known as the Giant Wood Spider. While you will probably not find one of these spiders' huge webs at the exact cache location; but they are common to the general area. The webs are large enough to block the path of a typical trail, as they frequently do. The venom of the Giant Wood Spider found in these parts is a potent neurotoxin, but not lethal to humans.

The Letterbox features a custom handmade stamp of Nephila clavipes' abdomen with a silver ink pad. The container is a small rectangular, transparent lock-n-lock. Hide it back as good or better than you found it.

Original contents include: log, special pen, handmade stamp, manufactured spiderweb stamp, self-inking Halloween spider stamplet, ink pad, soap bubbles, spider eraser, factsheets from Wikipedia, loop (magnifying glass), European coin for FTF.

Special thanks to mbooda and pbooda for helping make this new letterbox possible by coordinating the stage locations of their nearby multi-cache. CoPRC #3: Welcome Back to Mississippi TB Rest Stop (GCZZQE).
