Geocache Description:

This is a small tubular cache hidden at the site of the former railway station at Thelwall.

Thelwall Station was situated on the Ditton Junction to Skelton Junction line. It was opened in 1853 as part of the Warrington and Stockport Railway. The line operated until the 1980s but by that time Thelwall had already been closed to passengers for 30 years.

Though there's no track left the line is still in use as a national cycleway, the Trans-Pennine Trail. You can see the old station building, recently refurbished, on the north side of the cycleway. No trace of the platform remains, other than the raised ground in front of the old station building and a few telltale lumps of concrete in the undergrowth.

The cache is hidden just at the edge of the path so should be accessible to all. It's hidden by foliage but is perfectly easy to spot and retrieve without disturbing or breaking the plants, so please be careful. This is a replacement container for the original, larger cache that was muggled on it's first day :(

There is more information and photos, on theSubterranea Britannica website.

Please leave the cache well hidden and take care of fast moving muggles. Have fun!
