Geocache Description:

The Song Festival Grounds of Tallinn is an important place for every self-respecting Estonian. It can be seen as the cradle of the Singing Revolution: in the 1980s', many big (rock)concerts that carried the idea of independent Estonia, took place here.
In the 1980's, The Soviet Union started crumbling and falling apart. Many of the republics that belonged to the Soviet Union against their free will (including Estonia), saw perestrioka and glasnost that Gorbatchev started as a way to regain independence. As the Soviet authorities and KGB loosened their grip on the throats of poets, writers and musicians, they could finally "open their mouths" without being worried about being sent to the prison or out of the country. And so, many talented groups and artists emerged in the late 1970's and 1980's: GGG, Ornament, Singer-Vinger, Päratrust, Turist, Ruja, Tõnis Mägi, Ivo Linna, Rock Hotel, Alo Mattiisen, Ultima Thule, JMKE, Vennaskond etc, etc. Many of these artists have performed right here, on the Song Festival Grounds.
Even nowadays, the Song Festival Grounds is a popular center of leisure. Many rock-concerts and festivals take place here. In winter the Song Festival Grounds turn into a gigantic sleigh-hill.
I also added two waypoints: one for the memorial tablet of "Eestimaa Laul" – the biggest concert ever in Estonian history (to support independent Estonia in September 1988, some claim that 300,000 people attended the concert) and the other for the Place of the Song Festivals.
I actually think that this TTC cache (by the way, it's the first TTC that is larger than a micro!) is more significant to estonians than to foreigners – as a foreigner you just can't feel the feeling an Estonian experiences there. But if you have doubts – I REALLY recommend you to visit the cache and take a little walk around. It is just an amazingly beautiful place.
Note that this cache might not be available during some days of the year – for example during the beer festival Õllesummer. Well, actually you still can reach the cache then, but it's just that the ticket costs some hundred kroons. Also, as I said before, rock concerts take place on the Song Festival Grounds.
Enjoy!
