Geocache Description:

A 'cache and dash' by the side of a road (and old railway!) with no footpath on level ground.

This cache is at the former railway station of Mottisfont in Hampshire. The passenger service was withdrawn on 7th September 1964. The line was then used for freight until 18th September 1967 and then closed between Kimbridge Junction and Andover Junction. The track remained for 4 years after the line was closed.

The cache is a small clip-lock box containing a log sheet and pencil. It is suitable for small travel bugs, geocoins and other small swaps.

Please be mindful of the narrow road when retrieving the cache and keep an eye on small children or dogs. It can be busy at times. Because of this, I have marked the attributes for children and dogs as 'not suitable'.

You can park near to the cache in a field gateway opposite the 'bend to the right' road sign, which should be fine for this cache.
Please do not park in the entrance to the former station houses as this is private property. Also, the entrance to the Cemex gravel pits nearer to the main road is used by HGVs continuously during the daytime so this isn't recommended either!
If you want to have a look around the area, feel free to use the car park approximately a third of a mile away on the A3057 (turn left towards Kings Somborne and first left into a gravel car park) and this will take you to the start of the 'Spratt and Winkle line' trackbed which takes you to Stockbridge and Fullerton Junction.

Whilst you are here for the cache, you may notice thick concrete posts. These were the supports for the old level crossing gates as the line crossed the road at this point. The station building should be visible behind the fence and hedge. Please respect the residents' privacy by not venturing into their property.
