De KU Leuven is de oudste en de grootste universiteit van de Lage Landen en tevens de oudste nog bestaande katholieke universiteit ter wereld. Ze werd gesticht in 1425 als "Universitas Catholica Lovaniensis" en in 1968 splitste ze in een Nederlandstalige en een Franstalige afdeling. De Franstalige UCL verhuisde naar Louvain-la-Neuve (zie GCX5V3). In het academiejaar 2013-2014 had de KU Leuven 55.889 studenten, verdeeld over 16 faculteiten. Meer info erover op www.kuleuven.be.
Sinds 2005 stippelt een samenwerkingsproject van Toerisme Leuven en de KU Leuven jaarlijks een wetenschappelijk wandelparcours uit in de stad, onder de naam "Aha! WetenStappen".
De weg leidt u via de belangrijkste universiteitsgebouwen en van de ene faculteit naar de andere. Voor elk van de faculteiten staat een groot paneel met een straffe vraag en een slim antwoord. In vijf talen (Nederlands, Engels, Frans, Duits en Spaans) en ook met info op kindermaat. 12 kilometer stappen (5,5 km in het centrum) kan een mens flink wat kennis opleveren. Een slimme geest in een gezond lichaam.
De opdracht van de geocacher tijdens de wandeling is behalve op de panelen ook naar beneden te kijken en te bekijken hoe daar de aarde eruit ziet. Voor elk paneel staan er in deze pagina drie mogelijkheden, waarvan er telkens maar één juist is. Noteer telkens het nummer dat staat onder de juiste foto. Na het bezoek aan alle 19 punten tel je de 19 nummers op en u krijgt een 4-cijferig nummer in de vorm ABCD. De cache ligt aan de coördinaten N 50°52.D3B E 004°40.C1A.
De weg kan met de GPS en de "additional waypoints" worden gevolgd, of met behulp van de officiële elegante folder met kaart die bij Toerisme Leuven (vlakbij waypoint 1) gratis verkrijgbaar is (of online als PDF afdrukbaar).

The KU Leuven (Catholic University of Leuven) is the oldest and the largest university in the Low Countries, and even the oldest existing Catholic university in the world. It was founded in 1425 as "Universitas Catholica Lovaniensis" and in 1968 splitted in a Dutch-language and a French-language part UCL, of which the latter moved to Louvain-la-Neuve (see GCX5V3). Since 2005, a cooperation project of Toerism Leuven and KU Leuven produces every year a scientific walking track in the city, under the name "Aha! WetenStappen". The track leads you to the most important university buildings and from one faculty to another. For each of the faculty there is a big panel with a serious question and a clever answer. In five languages (Dutch, English, French, German and Spanish) and also with info for the kids. 12 kilometers walking (5,5 km in the center) can provide you with a solid amount of knowledge. A clever mind in a healthy body.
The task of a geocacher during the walk is besides looking on the panels also down and to observe what the ground looks like. For each panel there are three possibilities in this page, but every time only one of them is correct. Always write down the number which appears under the correct photo. After visiting all the 19 waypoints, sum up the 19 numbers and you get a 4-digit number in the form of ABCD. The cache is located at coordinates N 50°52.D3B E 004°40.C1A.
The path can be followed either with GPS and the "additional waypoints", or using the official smart folder with a map which you can get from Tourism Leuven (close to waypoint 1) free of charge (or online printable as a PDF).
